Meniscus in Melbourne - March 1999

Melbourne, Australia

As I write this we lie moored in the centre of Melbourne. The waves gently lap against the hull, and the bow quietly nods and snubs at the lines. As the sun drops towards the horizon it seems to melt, becoming a brilliant red and amber glow. The shadows meanwhile lengthen under the office blocks untill finally dusk falls to reveal a new world lit only by the moon, stars and the lights of a bustling city.  It is just a pleasant to sail into the heart of a great city as it is to sail into an uninhabited lagoon. Our mooring alongside the old wharves of the Yarra River is less than attractive but never-the-less it is very convenient and the views of the city are fantastic.

The Log reads 21,000 miles and to reach this point we have sailed through six storms (two in the channel, one in the Bay of Biscay, one in the Atlantic and two close to Australia), taken part in three major racing events (the ARC, BVI Regatta and Antigua Sailing Week) visited 42 countries and islands and entertained over 50 guests.

We have just completed a major overhaul and refit of Meniscus over the last 5 months and she is now ready for more adventures.
